Catching up on promises to the blogosphere, I owe mention to the Freelancers Union. Based in New York, they are an excellent organization focused on the needs of independent workers. Health insurance is far and away the greatest need we freelancers have, and the Union offers a group plan worth looking at for NYC-area freelancers. Reaching out to organize insurance and other resources for the rest of the country is in their plans. There is power in numbers, so I suggest heading on over and joining (it’s free!).
The Freelancers Union blog offers discussion of issues independent workers face along with profiles of members. Keeping up with their newsletter might even net you a free copy of Barbara Ehrenreich’s latest book. No promises, but it worked for me (more on the book in a future post).
