Meet the Neighbors
Wednesday, July 19th, 2006 at 7:00 pmI just stumbled upon chicagobloggers.com, which offers a very cool directory of Chicago blogs grouped by authors’ nearest El stop. I submitted this very blog today under the Wilson Red Line stop, which is near the apartment Rachel and I are moving to (in two weeks!). Eight blogs are listed there, and 34 are listed near the Sheridan stop which is just a slightly farther walk from our new place. Here are a few of my new neighbors and what they’ve been doing/writing about:
- pin.monkey.press looks like an amazing zine maker and generally smart and crafty dude. He digs around in used bookstores, bowls, and makes cool things.
- Mirandala chronicles a weird experience with a Cosi employee. Hmm… labor problems at Cosi? Never would have thunk it.
- I can think of one or two people who might get into Geogia’s knitting blog.
- Readingkiki looks like a good place to grow your reading list.
- Jason Pettis runs the new and very interesting-looking Chicago Center for Literature and Photography
Pleased to virtually meet all of you. No disrespect to Philly, but Chicago seems to be light years ahead in building these kinds of very practical applications for using the internet to build real-world communities.

Erik – Thanks for checking out my blog/site. Sadly, the wife and I just moved from that ‘hood to Albany Park. (Or not so sadly, as we slide into the world of “homeownership”)…Once again off the Brown Line. But that part of the city is pretty neat (off the Redline in Uptown). If you ride bikes, go check out Urban Bikes on Broadway, just North of the Wilson stop. They’re super nice and accomidating. Have fun exploring!

Erik – welcome to the neighborhood! Strangely, Chicagobloggers has me listed at both my old el stop (Wilson) and my current one (Berwyn). I do kind of miss my old neighborhood, though – who can complain about being a stumble away from Carol’s Pub on a cold winter night?!
And an extra welcome to a Philly ex-pat – I went to school out there and spent a couple of years living and working in the area. I love Chicago, but I do miss Philly…
